On Sunday, October 23, 2022 we welcomed nine new members to our church family. From the top left: Brandon and Avril Anders, Trent Bontrager and Becky Horvath, Christy Potts, and Russ and Peggy Davis-Griffin. Not pictured, Gary and Jean Carlson.

Brandon and Avril Anders recently moved to Solon from Mesa, Arizona. They attended Red Mountain Methodist Church in Mesa. Brandon sang in the choir there and has already joined our choir. Perhaps you have heard his solo vocal performances! Avril is a teacher and she served in the Christian Education department at her church. She has already agreed to serve in our middle school classroom! They have three children: Lilah is 14, Parker is going to be 13 next month, and Aria is 11. Brandon works in Supply Chain services, but he is ready to take some time to serve as an adult leader with our Work Camp program. Their host couple is Brent and April Nenadal.

Trent Bontrager and Becky Horvath are engaged to be married. As they get ready for their marriage, they are living in Kent. Trent is a student and Becky is a teacher. They both enjoy camping and outdoor adventures. They like watching sporting events too. Becky is a baker and enjoys cooking and crafting. Their host couple is Brooke and Ryan Anderson.

Gary and Jean Carlson come to us from Ravenna. Gary is a former United Methodist Church pastor so they were both very active in their former church. Now that they are retired, they enjoy traveling to visit their adult children and grandchildren. They recently visited Niagara Falls, a trip that has been on Jean’s bucket list for a long time! Together they like to play cards, particularly Euchre, Spades and Cribbage. In his spare time, Gary enjoys reading, puttering around the yard, working on their cars, and going fishing. Jean likes to read too, and she enjoys listening to music, walking and doing cross-stitch. Their host couple is Reed and Liz Fuller.

Russ Griffin and Peggy Davis-Griffin come to us from the First Congregational Church in Hudson. They recently moved to Solon and live in the Carrington Court community. Russ has served in three branches of the military. He was in the Army, serving two tours in Vietnam. He was also in the Air Force, and retired as a lieutenant from the Navy. Peggy once wrote on-air copy for local television news, but is now retired from her job as an administrative assistant at the UCC headquarters in Cleveland. Now that they are retired, they are busy keeping up with their seven adult children and four grandchildren. Russ enjoys football and baseball and he plays chess also. Peggy likes to read and attends plays and movies in her spare time. She also likes interior decorating and she enjoys hunting for special antiques. Their host couple is Jim and JoAnn Gavacs.

Christy Potts lives here in Aurora and was introduced to our church by some of her friends. She works as a professional sales coach. She has two children: Ruby is 12 years old and Ryan is 9 years old. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and learning more about sociology and spirituality. She likes to travel and spend time in nature. She has often been asked to speak about positive customer experience. Her host person is Katie Trook.
