You Can help the Missions Committee in its response to Hurricane Ian relief.

For the past several days we have been stunned and saddened by the coverage we have witnessed of Hurricane Ian.  One of the strongest storms ever to hit the US, it has destroyed homes and businesses and has left thousands stranded after roads and bridges have become impassable.

As of Sunday the death toll in Florida was nearly 50, with numbers expected to sharply rise as recovery begins.  Almost two million have experienced loss of power.

Here at home we are also grappling with the widespread destruction and flooding.  Many of us either own or rent properties we often visit in Florida, or we have friends who do. Some are still waiting to hear the extent of damage caused by Ian.

It has been a challenging year for the Missions Committee as we have sought to aid events of great disaster whether it be the war in Ukraine, massive flooding in Kentucky or the catastrophe of Ian in Florida. We prayerfully consider each dollar with which we are trusted and ask for God’s guidance as we look to support areas with the greatest need.

To that end, the Committee has chosen to support the Florida Disaster Fund. Recommended by the Office of the Governor, it is the state’s official private fund established to assist communities as they respond and recover during times of emergency or disaster.  Funds are distributed to service organizations that will serve individuals or groups within their own communities.  Notably, all processing and administrative fees have been waived for Ian so that every dollar can be used for those impacted by the storm.

Would you like to help in this effort?  We are grateful for your partnership.

Checks can be made to The Church in Aurora, and please write “Florida Disaster Fund” on the memo line.So that we may respond quickly, kindly send in your donation by October 17 if possible.

Thank you once again for your amazing generosity.
