Ministry of Music

The Church in Aurora has maintained a high standard for music for the better part of its existence.

The music used for our worship seeks both to preserve the heritage of traditional worship music, while also expanding into contemporary styles such as gospel, spirituals, and jazz.

Our four choirs – three vocal and one handbell – provide a musical opportunity to share in the joy of music for all ages. Chancel choir rehearsals are held weekly September through May, and the other choirs meet several weeks at a time to prepare for special events.

  • Chancel Choir – Ross Downing, Director of Music Ministries
  • Youth Choir – Grades 7-12 – Ross Downing
  • Children’s Choir – Grades 3-6 – Barb Brookhart
  • Adult Handbells – Ross Downing

Our worship experience each Sunday is greatly enhanced by a Schantz pipe organ and/or a piano. We also feature special music from church and community vocalists and instrumentalists on occasion, including throughout the summer months. Special musical events occur over the course of the year including Christmas and Easter services featuring all four choirs.

The Church in Aurora music staff brings much experience and leadership to the music ministry.  Their expertise not only helps to maintain, but also enhance the standard and quality of the sacred music for which the church is known.

The Church in Aurora Ministry of Music is dedicated to providing music for our congregation that will inspire, uplift and bring God’s word to all listeners.
